Do you have an imperfect smile because of a chipped or discolored tooth? At Sound Dental Solutions, we offer various treatments to improve the function and appearance of your smile, including dental bonding.
What Is Dental Bonding?
Dental bonding is a cosmetic and restorative dental treatment that can repair minor dental damage, misalignments, or discoloration. The bonding material is a composite resin we color-match to blend seamlessly with your natural smile. Also, this is the same composite resin material dentists use for tooth-colored fillings, so the composite is versatile and reliable.
What Problems Can Dental Bonding Fix?
Dental bonding can fix several different smile flaws, such as:
- Chips and breaks
- Cracks and fractures
- Small gaps between teeth
- Teeth that appear too long or short in length
- Discolored teeth
If left untreated, a chip or break can negatively impact your oral health. It’s essential to repair your teeth so you can chew and speak comfortably and adequately. Restoring a broken or chipped tooth also prevents further damage to the tooth and your surrounding teeth.
What Is the Tooth Bonding Process?
Dental bonding is an in-and-out treatment that doesn’t require numbing or anesthesia unless your dentist needs to dramatically reshape your tooth or fill a cavity. Your dentist may also administer anesthesia if the damage is near the tooth’s nerve.
We start the treatment by first ensuring you’re comfortable and relaxed. We then choose a composite resin shade that perfectly matches your natural teeth. Next, we prepare your tooth to receive the bonding material by roughening the tooth’s surface and applying the bonding agent. Roughening the tooth’s surface ensures the composite will stick and stay in place.
Your dentist then adds the composite resin in layers, hardens it with a UV light, and molds it to the tooth. Finally, your dentist makes any last shaping adjustments and polishes the tooth, so it looks and feels natural.
